Prioritise your safety
Report from a safe place where possible. Do not approach a person, enter an unsafe area, follow a vehicle or place yourself in danger simply to collect more information.
Practical guidance for reporting incidents responsibly and helping the PBCPA Control Room receive useful information without putting yourself or others at unnecessary risk.
Report from a safe place where possible. Do not approach a person, enter an unsafe area, follow a vehicle or place yourself in danger simply to collect more information.
Provide clear factual information such as what happened, where it happened, when you observed it and any useful details you can safely provide. Avoid assumptions about a person's intentions or identity.
An area, street, landmark or nearby business can help the Control Room understand where an incident occurred. Device location sharing is optional and should only be used when you are comfortable providing it.
You may attach an existing relevant photo to a report, but never put yourself or another person at risk to obtain one. Reports can still be submitted without photographs.
Reporter contact information, uploaded photos and precise incident locations are operational information. The public hotspot view is designed to show generalised area-level information rather than individual report details.
A successful online report receives a PBCPA reference number. Keep that reference available if you need to identify the report when communicating with the Control Room.
